Thanks to this moving post on Every Little Counts, I just purchased this gem from Amazon:

The first ever authorized DVD release of films by Andy Warhol. Features thirteen of his classic silent, black and white film portraits. Subjects include Nico, Lou Reed, Edie Sedgwick, Dennis Hopper, and more. Shot between 1964 and 1966 at Warhol’s Factory in NYC, these screen tests are presented with newly commissioned soundtracks performed by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips (formerly of Luna and currently recording as Dean & Britta). Includes behind the scenes making of the new soundtrack, a video interview with Dean & Britta, and a 40-page booklet with liner notes and biographies of the screen test subjects.

I get sad every now and then when I think of John Jr. and Carolyn.

One of my favorite photographs is of the two of them:

I guess it’s the casual wear they have on, Carolyn’s long lovely hair & that it seems like they didn’t have a care in the world at the moment this photo was shot.  It looks like Carolyn threw on some of John’s sweatpants.

These images shot for vanity fair make it hard to not think how she and John left us much much too soon.

My heart belongs to Philadelphia

I spent four days in Philly last week and my heart is still aflutter from all the beauty and warmth the city emanates.   There’s so much history everywhere and people are friendly.  Lots of good food, lots of good beverage (Village Whiskey, you rule and you’ve inspired my summer drink:  the Ginger Rogers!).

A short bus ride took me to see the Barnes Collection.  I highly suggest you see it in its organic state before it moves to Philly in 2011.  Barnes was too cool and spent a lifetime getting his art arranged just so.  I hope his vision is given respect when the art work is moved to the new location in Philly. I can’t imagine seeing the art and then not having the opportunity to walk through the rose garden.

My favorite has to be the Mütter Museum.  Strange and surreal, all while very dignified.  I can only imagine that it provokes the same feelings/experience that the first museums inspired.  Oddities brought to us by Nature.

Beautiful gowns and Natural History?  Say no more…just give me more.  After contemplating my obsessions with taxidermy, bats, skeletons, dinosaurs and the table of elements, I picked up a copy of On the Origin of Species.  I figured if I didn’t fully grasp the text and complete the book, I’d at least absorb some inspiration for design.

This spread in the May issue of Elle is right in my wheelhouse.   The images (via fgr) were shot for Elle by Carter Smith with the aide of fashion editor Mario Grauso.  Model: Olga Sherer at the American Museum of Natural History.  Showcased in one of the images is the beautiful Givenchy dress Zoe Saldana rocked to the Oscars, which caused some peeps to hate.

It’s just hit me, why haven’t we seen more of her on Mag Covers?

Other mags would be smart to follow suit.

I’m rushing out to grab this issue.

The cover is beautiful.  Lovely that the Elle font has patterned letters to match the Miu Miu prints.

On another note, it seems many critics have decided that Zoe Saldana’s dress wasn’t Red Carpet Hot and have put her on their Worst Dressed list…I DISAGREE and think she brought something new and avant to the often boring, sameness found at the Oscars.

She still kept it glamorous.  Love the dark shoes falling in line with the dark purple of the dress…

I was pleased as pie when I opened up my mailbox to find a stunner of  a cover on Bazaar’s March issue.

The great Kate on her 8th cover for Bazaar.  Inside she talks about spending 20 years in fashion.

Has it really been that long?  The subscriber cover is gorgeous.

I love getting special covers every month.

my favorite thing about Nine.

Marion Cotillard is on the more elusive side unless she’s posing on a red carpet.  I tried to dig up as many photos of her in more casual attire…b/c I just love her relaxed, functional style.  I’m happy to see she is never without a propper topper AND diggin her with cute bf Guillaume Canet.  Towards the end here…I had to throw in some glammed up Marion.
